Cumberland City Council is responding to new COVID-19 guidance from both Federal and State levels of government.

“With restrictions easing slightly, Council is reopening our parks, playgrounds and outdoor exercise equipment from Friday 15 May, in line with the Government’s latest advice and guidance,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“When these spaces reopen, Council’s maintenance team will be running a stringent cleaning regime in high-touch areas to make sure these areas are safe environments and to help limit the spread of the virus.

“Council’s public toilets will also reopen to support the increased use of our facilities.

“Please use our facilities with caution and abide by the rules when it comes to public gatherings occurring in our public spaces, parks and reserves.

“We must remain vigilant. This will only work if people do the right thing and follow health advice and guidance around social distancing.

“With restrictions easing in places of public worship, I must stress the importance of social distancing for the safety of the community during Ramadan.

“Rules apply to gatherings indoors and outdoors and these rules must be followed.”

From Friday, the following will be allowed in NSW:

  • outdoor gatherings of up to 10 people
  • cafes and restaurants can seat 10 patrons at any one time
  • up to 5 visitors to a household at any one time
  • weddings up to 10 guests
  • indoor funerals up to 20 mourners, outdoor funerals up to 30

Public libraries and community halls remain closed at this point. Council's face-to-face Customer Service function has been suspended. Residents can contact Council 02 8757 9000; email council@cumberland.nsw.gov.au or provide feedback online at www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au
