Cumberland City Council has announced a line-up of renowned local artists for their COVID-safe Australia Day event at the Holroyd Gardens on 26 January 2021.

Mayor of Cumberland City Council Steve Christou said health and safety measures are in place to ensure the event is COVID-safe and adheres to health directives.

“We know it’s been a difficult start to the year. That’s why it’s more important now than ever for our community to celebrate a COVID-safe Australia Day event,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“We will not only be celebrating what it means to be Australian, but also spreading joy through music and entertainment, nurturing local artists by giving them a platform and giving residents and families a time to come together and enjoy firework displays.

“At Cumberland City, we have been planning a COVID-safe program, to ensure we mark an important day for all Australians.”

Some key highlights will include fireworks, food and performances by international artists from the likes of D Minor and A.Girl.

A range of planning elements, including crowd control management measures on entry and exit, compulsory registration and promotion of good hand hygiene, have been included as part of maintaining a COVID-safe event.

Australia Day celebrations in Cumberland City include the Citizen of the Year and Community Pride Awards, held in conjunction with a special Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony.

This will be followed by a free Australia Day event from 6pm to 9pm at the Holroyd Gardens.

The event has been assisted by the Australian Government through the National Australia Day Council and sponsored by Dooleys Lidcombe Catholic Cub and Wenty Leagues.
