Cumberland Council is partnering with Sydney Olympic Park to present a series of free Poppy in the Park story-time sessions for children aged five years or under at Blaxland Riverside Park.

Poppy is the face of the Council’s ‘Paint Cumberland REaD’ early literacy program, and a regular visitor to local community events and venues.
“Council’s ‘Paint Cumberland REaD’ program works with the community to develop early literacy skills in childhood,” Mayor Greg Cummings explained.

Poppy in the Park activities are designed to help children learn in a creative and fun environment, setting a solid foundation for future education, learning and development.

“Early literacy programs can be particularly beneficial for those who haven’t yet started ‘big school’; helping prepare children for the world of reading and writing that awaits.

“Another delightful benefit of story-time is that it will spark their imagination, nurture their curiosity and perhaps open the door to a lifelong love of reading, writing and learning.”

After having stories read to them, kids will get to enjoy music and craft.
