Cumberland Council is encouraging residents to provide their feedback on the Draft Children and Families Strategy 2019 – 2023.

Child protection, education and care, community participation and health and well being are priority areas addressed in the Strategy.

Mayor Greg Cummings said the Strategy is the first of its kind for Council and is designed to support children and families in reaching their full potential.

“This Strategy is an investment in giving children the best possible start in life and focuses on providing access to quality education and care and child protection,” said Mayor Cummings.

“Council has been planning collaboratively for the growing and changing needs of children and families in Cumberland. This demonstrates Council’s role in leading, supporting and strengthening the important work and initiatives at a local level that consider the needs of our youngest residents.

“The Strategy will provide direction for the next four years, particularly when it comes to Council-run education and care services and support programmes.

“It also outlines how we will support and partner with the community, other levels of government and providers to improve quality outcomes for children and families.

“We ask the community, including children, to have their say on the Draft Strategy.”

Census data shows that Cumberland is home to nearly 40,000 children aged up to 12 years and this population is increasing.

The Draft Children and Families Strategy 2019 – 2023 is on public exhibition from Friday, 9 August 2019 until Friday, 6 September 2019.

Residents can make submissions online by visiting: https://haveyoursay.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/draft-children-and-families-strategy-2019-2023.

A hardcopy of the Draft Strategy is also available at all Council education and care centres, libraries and at Auburn and Merrylands Service Centres.
