Cumberland Council is giving residents the chance to have their say on the concept plan and design of a brand new all-abilities playground in Central Gardens, Merrylands.

Mayor Greg Cummings said that Central Gardens is one of Cumberland’s most popular parks and making it more inclusive of all abilities means that everyone can enjoy it.

“Central Gardens is an ideal outdoor venue for family parties, group activities and school excursions. Our goal is to make it an accessible space for the entire community,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“Nearly one in five Australians has a disability, many being children. We want children regardless of ability to be able to have fun, be creative and play in a supportive space.

“Thanks to the NSW Government Stronger Communities Fund, we are able to upgrade the larger playground in Central Gardens to be an inclusive play space for all.

“For locals and visitors, Central Gardens is a peaceful bushland setting already with two children’s playgrounds, animal enclosures, educational bush trails, ponds and water features, an amphitheatre, tennis courts, open grass areas as well as barbecue and picnic areas, and parking.

“To inform the concept for the playground, we are seeking input from the local community about how they currently use the gardens and play space, what they love about it, and what they would like to see in the future. I encourage everyone to have their say.”

This is one of the projects being delivered across Cumberland with the support of the Stronger Communities Fund; allowing residents, community groups and councils to work together to deliver infrastructure and services that will make a real and lasting difference to the lives our local communities.

Residents can have their say until Monday 25 June 2018 at haveyoursay.cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
