Cumberland Council is inviting feedback on the Draft Cumberland 2030: Our Local Strategic Planning Statement, on public exhibition until the 30 August 2019.

Local Strategic Planning Statements (LSPS) are a new legislative requirement for councils, requiring them to provide a 20-year vision for land use, as well as outlining strategies for managing change and preserving the unique character of their areas.

The draft LSPS will provide Council with strategic direction for planning and help facilitate a coordinated approach to managing growth and development in the Cumberland area.

Mayor Greg Cummings invited residents to help shape the future of Cumberland by giving their feedback on the draft LSPS.

Council staff have listened closely to residents and this is reflected in our draft Local Strategic Planning Statement,” Mayor Cummings said.

Residents have consistently told us they want getting around to be easier; for housing to be affordable; to have access to local jobs and education opportunities; and for green spaces to be protected.

The draft Statement aligns with these priorities and those identified in our Community Strategic Plan, as well as the Greater Sydney Commission’s Central City District Plan.

We are now asking residents, ‘have we heard you correctly? And what, if anything, have we missed?

Council is hosting seven engagement opportunities throughout the public exhibition period, with the first opportunity at Fun4Kids on 12 July at Merrylands Central Gardens.
