Cumberland Council is launching a new Meet Your Councillor program as part of Local Government Week 2018 (30 July – 5 August), the theme of which is The Power of Community.
Mayor Greg Cummings said that Local Government Week is a great opportunity for the community to get to know their Council, their representatives and the services available to them.
“Cumberland Council is committed to engaging with our community which is why we are launching our brand new Meet Your Councillor program which will provide a Ward based face-to-face forum for the community to meet with their Councillors,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.
“Councillors from each Ward will be available to the community on Saturday 4 August from 10am -12pm to answer questions from residents and to provide an opportunity for the community to have their say on upcoming Council plans and strategies.
“Many people don’t know the variety of services available to them as a Cumberland resident including four free rubbish pickups per year; weekly meal delivery for seniors; and affordable care and education services including family day care. Local Government Week is a chance for residents to learn what’s on offer.
“The 2018 Local Government Week theme of The Power of Community resonates with Cumberland Council as we are committed to listening to our community and prioritising action based on what the community wants.
“For example in our 2018-19 Operational Plan we have listened to the community in prioritising what is important to them. We are investing in cleaner streets, pools modernisation, and improving Development Application waiting times.
“The power of community in Cumberland is strong. We come from many backgrounds, speak different languages and have all had different journeys but the thing we have in common is that we all call Cumberland home and it shows in our community spirit.”
Councillors will be available for Cumberland Council’s Meet Your Councillor event at the below locations on Saturday 4 August 2018 from 10am – 12pm.
- Greystanes Ward: Allan Ezzy Community Centre, Pemulwuy - 1 Newport Street, Pemulwuy
- Wentworthville Ward: Banksia Room, Wentworthville Community Centre – 2 Lane Street, Wentworthville
- Granville Ward: Granville Town Hall, Room 1 - 10 Carlton St, Granville
- South Granville Ward: Progress Park Sports Centre - Wellington Rd, South Granville
- Regents Park Ward: Berala Community Centre - 98-104 Woodburn Rd, Berala
