Mayor Greg Cummings said Storytime with Poppy the Possum is a great way for parents to get their kids excited and involved with reading and literacy.

“Our Poppy the Possum Storytime events are an enjoyable morning of stories and songs for children to learn outside of their normal environment in a fun and creative space,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“Storytime stimulates a child’s imagination and helps them to develop their listening and language skills. For parents and carers Storytime is a great bonding exercise with their children which helps develop learning, literacy and concentration skills while interacting with other children their age.

“In a modern age where technology is playing a larger role in our lives it’s important to have the chance to disconnect and learn in a face to face environment. Storytime at the Bush School and Pemulwuy Marketplace allows families to get out of the house and connect with other Cumberland residents.

“Early literacy programs are beneficial for young children who haven’t started school yet as it can prepare them for the world of reading and writing. Council’s Paint Cumberland REaD program provides opportunities to learn while setting a solid foundation for future education and development.”
