Roald Dahl inspires school holidays in Cumberland

Cumberland Council libraries will be bringing the Big Friendly Giant, James and the Giant Peach and other classic stories to life with free Roald Dahl inspired activities throughout the July school holidays.

Auburn Library will host Reimaging Roald Dahl workshops with author and illustrator Matt Cosgrove:

  • Five to 10 year olds can redraw Roald Dahl’s characters using their own imagination in an illustration workshop.
  • Ten to 15 year olds can join a writing workshop where they can write their favourite Roald Dahl character into a whole new story.

Other activities on offer include:

  • Revolting Rhymes story fun
  • Enormous Crocodile and Giant Peach craft
  • Charlie’s chocolate making workshops
  • BFG dream jars workshops

There will also be Comics Lab workshops with comic book creators Rebekah Mazzavato and Tinman Johnson.

Mayor Greg Cummings said with the broad range of activities available across Cumberland, parents are sure to find something fun for their children to participate in.

“Many of our library and community school holiday activities are run free of charge for our residents and they encourage children to be active with their imagination,” Mayor Cummings said.

“On top of the indoor library activities, Council have a range of sporting and recreational options for children including dance workshops, ping pong tournaments, skateboarding workshops and ice skating outings.

“I encourage everyone to make the most of the activities on offer in Cumberland these school holidays.”
