Cumberland Council has handed out more than $600,000 to community organisations as part of the 2017-18 Cumberland Community Grants Program which had a ceremony for recipients on 30 May 2018.

The Cumberland Community Grants Program provides grants to local, not for profit organisations and individuals for projects that deliver a social, economic, cultural, recreational or environmental benefit to the local community.

Mayor Greg Cummings said that Cumberland has one of the largest grant programs of any council in Western Sydney with a total funding pool of more than $600,000 being distributed among 51 organisations.

“The broad range of projects funded reflects the diverse community we have in Cumberland and their needs. Each funding round highlights the organisations and individuals who help make Cumberland the vibrant, sustainable and inclusive community it is today,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“This year our grant funding will be going towards cultural dance groups,  women’s health projects, education and employment support for young people, living skills for young people experiencing homelessness, sporting and exercise equipment for community groups, translation services for older people with language barriers, and family-friendly events that the whole community can enjoy.

“It’s Council’s goal that our different community organisations have the tools they need to implement their vision. The Cumberland Community Grants program is unique, because of the level of support that Council staff provides to organisations to develop and implement their project funding. The support includes tailored one-on-one advice, a monthly bulletin with grant opportunities and grant writing workshops.”

The Cumberland Community Grants Program Guidelines and Application Form will be available online at www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/grants when the next round opens in July 2018. For more information contact Council’s grants team at grants@cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
