Council has unveiled concept design of the new $22m multi-purpose community centre, library and arts facility in Granville. The release follows the unanimous approval of Council’s Development Application (DA) by the Sydney Central City Planning Panel on 9 August.

Mayor Greg Cummings welcomed the important milestone, saying he looked forward to breaking ground on the project in this financial year.

“The new multi-purpose centre will give local residents a place where they can meet, study, create and perform,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

“The approved design builds upon the existing elements of Granville pool, park lands and outdoor recreation facilities, while delivering something bold and new.

“The building is a flagship piece of infrastructure for the area. Commuters on the Western train line and visitors to the park will pass the state of the art facility and see Council’s commitment to the people of Granville.

“There is an obvious shortfall of community spaces in the Granville area. The multi-purpose centre will help address this by giving residents a modern venue where they can come together as a community.

“The design of the multi-purpose centre followed extensive community consultation in 2017, to ensure we got the right mix of community space, library and arts space.

“The DA approved by the Sydney Central City Planning Panel translates the community’s feedback into a design that will gives residents what they asked for and more.”

The multi-purpose centre will open its doors in 2020 and is jointly funded by the NSW Government's Stronger Communities Fund and Cumberland Council.
