Cumberland City Council will be celebrating its senior residents with 12 days of free activities, events and online workshops as part of the annual Seniors Festival.

The theme for this year is ‘Celebrate Together’ and the festival program starts on Wednesday 1 February.

The program will feature outdoor activities, which will include scenic bus trips to the New South Wales Central Coast, plus a golf and picnic day.

There will also be free health checks conducted by hearing specialists and a range of online workshops including Digital Learning Drop-In Sessions and Introduction to Identity Theft.

Cumberland City Council Mayor Lisa Lake said the festival is a great opportunity to acknowledge the important roles seniors play in our community.

“The Seniors Festival is one of the largest celebrations held for seniors and provides opportunities for our “young at heart” to explore the great outdoors, meet people, learn new skills and engage in an enticing program of events and activities,” she said.

“At least 15 percent of our population is made up of senior residents many of whom actively contribute to our Cumberland community by teaching life-long skills, caring for our local environment, sharing cultural traditions and volunteering to help others. It’s important we take this time to acknowledge and thank our Seniors for their part in making Cumberland the vibrant and engaging place it is today. ” she said.

The festival is also a way of showcasing Council’s Seniors Program and activities on offer for older residents in the Cumberland City community.
