Heritage Award winners announced

Congratulations to the winners of the 2021 Cumberland Local Heritage Awards announced at our Council meeting on Wednesday 18 August 2021.

Mayor Steve Christou said acknowledging our heritage is a key cornerstone of the Cumberland area.

“I commend the winners on their excellent entries and for partaking in preserving and celebrating the history of our community,” Mayor Christou said.

“Council received 135 entries between 8 March 2021 and 30 April 2021 across all categories, which is a fantastic response and shows the importance being placed on our local heritage”.

The following winners have been recognised across all categories as part of the awards:

Best Maintained Heritage Property

  • Luke Hickey, Greystanes

HistoResearch: Researching our Local History

  • Winner: Ron Inglis, ‘Auburn Remembers’: An account of the Auburn Memorial for men who gave their lives in the First World War 1914-1918
  • Runner-up: Pamela Zopf, ‘Glenroy – One Hundred and Thirty Years of History’: A historical record and story of Glenroy House, on the corner of Fairfield Road and King Street, in Guildford West

Keeper of the Stone (Children’s Heritage Award)

  • Division 1. Winner: Christian Constantinov (kindergarten). Runner-up: Pragnya Jangam (kindergarten).
  • Division 2. Winner: Ibrahim Muhammad (year 4). Runner-up: Olivia Omar (year 4).
  • Overall winner: Ibrahim Muhammad (year 4)
