Nominations for the 2019 Cumberland Citizen of the Year Awards will be open from Monday 24 September until Friday 9 December 2018.

Mayor Greg Cummings said the Citizen of the Year Awards which are presented to winners on Australia Day are a great opportunity for residents to recognise the outstanding contribution of their fellow citizens to the Cumberland community.

“These awards give us a chance to put the spotlight on individuals and events who have demonstrated outstanding commitment towards making Cumberland a great place to live, work and visit,” Mayor Greg Cummings said.

The awards are separated into three categories:

  • Citizen of the Year (Over 26 years)
  • Young Citizen of the Year (30 years and under)
  • Senior Citizens of the Year (65 years and over)

“We all know people in our community who go the extra mile to help out and who deserved to be recognised. It might be a neighbour, family member, teacher, sporting coach, religious leader or friend.

“We know that these local heroes don’t do it for the recognition but it is important to thank them as a community for their work and encourage others to follow their example.

“The awards will be presented at an official ceremony held on 26 January 2019. The celebrations will then continue at Council’s Australia Day festival from 5pm to 9pm at Holroyd Gardens, Merrylands. I encourage everyone to take the time and nominate someone worthy.”
