Cumberland City Council invites the community to celebrate the Year of the Snake at its exciting Lunar New Year event at Auburn Park on Saturday, 8 February 2025, from 5pm to 9pm.

The Year of the Snake symbolises wisdom, mystery and transformation. It is also during this time that people give hong bao (red envelopes), not only to younger ones but also to their parents and grandparents, as a gesture of respect and to wish good luck for the year ahead.

Cumberland Mayor Ola Hamed emphasised the significance of this celebration in bringing people together.

“The Lunar New Year is a special time for reflection, renewal, and unity, offering a chance for people from all walks of life to celebrate a fresh start,” Mayor Hamed said.

“This event is an opportunity for our community to connect, enjoy vibrant cultural traditions, and learn more about the diverse cultures that call Cumberland home.”

This year’s event promises to be bigger and better than ever, with a dazzling lineup of traditional lion dances, live performances, delicious food stalls, and a spectacular firecracker finale that will light up the sky! Plus, there will be something for everyone with family-friendly activities that will keep the fun going all evening long.

Join us as we come together to embrace Cumberland’s rich cultural diversity, make new memories, and celebrate the Year of the Snake in style!
