On Saturday, 26 November 2022 residents in Cumberland rallied together at Wentworthville to help pack over 1800 Supertee Kits, which were gifted to children facing long-term illness’ in hospital.

The Supertee kits are hospital packs which were designed and created by Cumberland local Jason Sotiris. The packs come complete with a Marvel superhero medical garment, an activity book, stickers, bookmarks, a superhero ID card and a special message from both Australian actor Chris Hemsworth and American Actress Brie Larson.

Cumberland Council Mayor Clr Lisa Lake said it was great to see the Cumberland community united and rallying behind a worthy cause.

“ A sick child needs lots of encouragement and re-assurance. These packs help to brighten up their day and make their time in hospital more cheerful and less anxious, so I am very pleased to see our community members banding together to support this worthy cause,” she said.

Supertee CEO and co-founder, Jason Sotiris said that having the support of the community is so important when faced with raising a child with life-threatening conditions.

“This is a really busy time of the year so to have the support of the community to help us pack kits will really help sick kids get through the holiday season,” he said.

“We see so many people from different backgrounds come together to help because we all love our children and want them to get better. Families helping families is our motto and I thank everyone for making this happen. Thank you for showing such kindness to those suffering through so much."

Resident Kim Simon who volunteered on the day said she experienced firsthand what it is like to go through tough times.

“Cancer has affected many people in my life, so I wanted to able to give back to those who have helped me and my family through our toughest times,” she said.

“As a teacher and a parent, I’m always around kids and for me to have any opportunity to give back is something that I always do.”

Since its inception in 2018, Supertee has helped thousands of sick Australian children and their parents with over 200 volunteers involved in supporting Supertee nationwide.
