Cumberland City Council will host a social media competition and open-air dining experience to celebrate the month of Ramadan.

“The holy month of Ramadan begins this week and I wish the Muslim community a Ramadan Mubarak,” said Mayor Steve Christou.

“It’s a time to reflect on the wisdom and guidance that for many people comes with faith.

“It is also an opportunity for families and friends to come together and extend their generosity to the less fortunate.

“Here in Cumberland City, Islam is one of the largest religious groups. We’ll be celebrating the holy month with fun competitions for our local schools and residents.

“We’ll also be hosting an open-air dining experience in the Auburn Central forecourt from 7-9 May. Due to COVID-19 regulations and social distancing requirements, we cannot host a large-scale festival like previous years.

“However, I am excited that we are initiating a festive atmosphere and invite you to come along and join in the Ramadan spirit,” said Mayor Christou.
