Join author Tim Knight at Merrylands Library as he talks about his book ‘Gallipoli Soup’.
Tim Knight presents his book, ‘Gallipoli Soup’ – a dramatised account of the Gallipoli battles.
‘Gallipoli Soup’ is a story of the famous campaign of World War I, as seen through the eyes of several participants: Australians, Turks, English and Germans, in roles of a press correspondent, an ambassador, infantry privates, army and navy officers, a politician and a spy. It is written like a novel, not traditional historical fiction, and with the purpose of telling the story exactly like it happened.
Tim Knight grew up is Sydney, learned about Gallipoli at school, and like most school kids, saw only one side of the conflict until a young lady in his year stood up against the popular outrage against the Turks. She pointed out that the Australians shouldn’t have even been there, that they were invading another country and were killed by men who were defending their homeland. That young lady, who has Turkish origins, is now Tim’s wife and story of her grandfather who fought with the Turkish forces against the Anzacs, and tale of Tim’s great grandfather, a member of the Australian Imperial Force of WWI, became part of this book.
After the talk, attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions and purchase a copy of ‘Gallipoli Soup’ signed by the author.
Bookings are not required.
