Cumberland City Council’s Australia Day event is set to take over Holroyd Gardens in Merrylands with a jam-packed program on Thursday 26 January from 6-9pm.

The annual event will celebrate Cumberland City’s diverse community and feature live entertainment from local musicians and DJs, a variety of food trucks, an outdoor cinema screening of the action-packed animated comedy Back To The Outback, an assortment of garden games and a spectacular fireworks display.

Cumberland City Council Mayor Lisa Lake said Australia Day is a special time to celebrate Cumberland’s diverse community.

“Australia Day gives us all an opportunity to come together and acknowledge our cultures, celebrate our country and welcome new citizens into our community,” she said.

“There will be something for all ages to enjoy, and I encourage everyone to come along and join the fun. For those looking for some outdoor fun there will be garden games with a giant chess set, a giant Connect 4, ring toss, croquet and games of cricket.”

A variety of food trucks and pop-up stalls will have a selection of food and beverages available for residents to purchase and enjoy as they catch a movie at the outdoor cinema which will be fitted out with bean bags.

To finish the event, a fireworks display is set to light up the night’s sky to conclude celebrations for the day.

Celebrations on the day will also include a Citizen of the Year and Community Pride Awards, held in conjunction with a special Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony at the Holroyd Centre, where 150 residents will join the Cumberland community as our newest Australian citizens.
