To help households reduce their organic waste, Cumberland Council has introduced a Compost Bin and Worm Farm Rebate Program, offering eligible members of the community a rebate of up to $50.

“To be eligible to claim the rebate you must be a resident or ratepayer of the Local Government Area,” Mayor Greg Cummings explained

“Just provide a copy of your receipt – date of purchase should be within the past three months - and provide proof of address.

“The great thing about the rebate program is that it offers choice.

“We understand that one size doesn’t fit all – some may want a small worm farm for their balcony, others might want a more elaborate set up in their backyard. This approach supports your ability to choose what suits you best.

“If you buy a $30 compost bin, you’ll receive a $30 rebate. If you buy a $70 compost bin, you’ll receive a $50 rebate. So you can spend as little or as much as you like.

“Just download the rebate form from our website, return to Council and we’ll deposit up to $50 in your bank account.

“If composting or worm farming is new for you, make sure you check our website or Facebook page regularly for the details of free workshops,” Mayor Cummings continued.

“In these we’ll cover how to set up a compost bin or worm farm, how to maintain them, and share troubleshooting tips.”

There is a limit of one rebate per household and that the rebate does not extend to compost system accessories and/or worms.
