Viv May, Administrator of Cumberland Council, today announced a $1 million grants program for community, sporting and cultural organisations within the local government area. Local groups will soon be able to apply for grants of up to $50,000. Funding for the program will be sourced from the $15 million provided to Cumberland Council by the State Government `to invest in community projects’.

“This new community grants program will provide assistance to community groups throughout the new Cumberland Council and I am sure that it will greatly benefit a large number of sporting, cultural and community organisations,” Viv May said.

“We want to encourage participation by our young people in sport and I know there are many sporting associations in Cumberland that work very hard, every weekend, to help kids enjoy themselves and get healthy.

“There are also groups that help less fortunate people in our community and their selfless contributions make our community a better place to live. The same can be said for the many cultural organisations within Cumberland.

“These important community contributors are deserving of a helping hand and these grants may assist with their excellent work.

“Soon Council will be placing advertisements calling for applications for these community grants, and I encourage community groups within Cumberland to consider applying,” Mr May said.
