Cumberland Council has unveiled its first draft Community Strategic Plan and is encouraging members of the community to share their thoughts during the public exhibition period, inviting them to help make the community’s vision a reality.

Cumberland Council engaged more than 2,500 members of the community – including residents, community groups, businesses and other stakeholders – in a comprehensive community engagement campaign to determine the hopes and aspirations of the new community.

The plan outlines the community’s six key priorities:

1. A great place to live
2. A safe and accessible community
3. A clean and green community
4. A strong local economy
5. A resilient built environment
6. Transparent and accountable leadership

“The importance of the community Strategic Plan can’t be understated. It is the roadmap directing Council in the years to come,” Cumberland Council Interim General Manager Malcolm Ryan said.

“It was most important that this plan reflected what the many communities of Cumberland want and that’s why we spoke to so many people through surveys and workshops, at schools and businesses.

“Throughout all our consultation it became clear that these six key areas were where we should be focusing our effort and resources.

“The plan acknowledges that the community vision cannot be achieved solely through services but must link with partners, including government and non-government agencies who contribute to the goals in the plan

“Now it’s your turn to let us know if we’ve got this right. We want to hear from you over the next month. All community input between now and then will be put into the final plan.”
