Cumberland Council Mayor Greg Cummings has welcomed $200,000 in state funding to upgrade the six netball courts at Wyatt Park, Lidcombe. The successful grant application is great news to the Parramatta Auburn Netball Association (PANA) whose members have been playing on the increasingly cracked and uneven asphalt courts.

Stuart Ayres MP, Member for Penrith and Minister for Sport visited the facilities on Monday evening view the courts and speak with players and officials of the Parramatta Auburn Netball Association (PANA).  The court upgrade is one of a series of sweeping changes that will transform Wyatt Park into a modern and valued recreational hub for the local area.

“I’d like to thank Minister Ayres and the NSW Government for backing Cumberland Council and helping us deliver the very best in sporting and recreational facilities,” said Mayor Greg Cummings.

“For many of the residents living in the neighbouring units and apartment blocks, Wyatt Park is their ‘back yard.’ It is where they come to get outside, be active and have a good time.

“Sport plays a vital role in bringing our diverse community together and helping everyone to feel welcome and belong. We need to make sure our sporting facilities are well maintained and fit for purpose.

“The $200,000 grant is the largest of five we have received from the State Government over the last year to upgrade our recreational facilities.

“The funds boost the already $12m committed by Council towards park renewals and upgrades in this financial year.

“Without the support of the State Government we wouldn’t be able to do this, so the utmost thanks and credit to Minister Ayres.

“This is a great example of how our two levels of government can work together to deliver frontline, important services.”

“This $200,000 grant in particular is extremely important because it ties in to our plan to transform Wyatt Park.  Council has recently conducted two rounds of community consultations with the feedback to inform a future Plan of Management.

“It’s definitely an exciting time to be a resident living near Wyatt Park.”
