At last night’s Council Meeting Cumberland’s new brand and visual identity was unveiled. Cumberland’s new brand mark was showcased along with artwork concepts.

Cumberland Council Interim General Manager Malcolm Ryan explained the importance of the rebranding and the extensive process behind the brand’s development:

“This was a once in a generation opportunity to create something entirely new that all of Cumberland could be proud of. Our goal, from start to finish, was to create a brand that linked our new communities together, created a sense of ownership and promise for the future.”

“The community themselves were important contributors to the creation of this brand. Over the last few months we have been running a number of workshops, forums, online surveys and other engagement activities with the community to find out what you think Cumberland currently is, where it should be in the future and what you want it to look like.”

“All this valuable input became what we call the ‘brand strategy’ which outlined Cumberland’s values and ambitions. The brand strategy was transformed into Cumberland’s brand and visual identity.”

“The brand is a firm announcement of Cumberland’s identity and aspirations for the future. The vibrant colours are a direct representation of Cumberland’s potential, ambition and each represent a different part of Cumberland’s diverse characteristics. The logo itself was designed in order to recognise togetherness, leadership and a strong purpose.”

“We want Cumberland to identify with these symbols and see them as a celebration of what we are and what we want to be. Ultimately, we want to create a common sense throughout the community of a fresh platform to launch off into the future.”

Now Cumberland Council will begin implementing this brand in a phased process across all its assets including trucks, street signs, welcome signs, community centres, libraries, administrative centres, parks and town centres, and on our communications materials. This is an extensive project which will take time but keep an eye out as you will start to see things change immediately starting with the informational materials you receive from council.
