Take a trip to the moon this September as Cumberland Council’s popular Moon Festival makes its way to Lidcombe on Saturday 30 September 2023.

Get ready for a jam-packed event with a mix of both traditional and contemporary live entertainment, fusion-food, and free activities for the whole family to enjoy.

Festivalgoers will also be treated to a screening of two outdoor movies, Over the Moon and Kung Fu Panda, and will have the opportunity to meet and greet the fun-loving Kung Fu Panda Po himself!

Cumberland Mayor Lisa Lake said Wyatt Park will be buzzing with plenty of fun activities for everyone to enjoy.

“I’m looking forward to this next exciting event at Wyatt Park in Lidcombe, which will have something for everyone in the family to enjoy.”

“Our wonderful diverse community is a never-ending source of inspiration for creative arts, dynamic entertainment, delicious food and fun activities. We love hosting local events that offer new experiences through the sharing of culture.” said Mayor Lake.

Festivities kick off at 1pm with DJ Steve Zappa bringing the fusion tunes, followed by lion dancing and the Sydney Chinese Dance Group showcasing the traditional artistry of Chinese dance. The GWS Giants will also be in attendance, giving the community a chance to win some awesome prizes through their target challenge.

Also known as the Moon Cake Festival and traditionally as the Mid-Autumn Festival, the Moon Festival is a harvest celebration that takes place on the 15th day of the eighth month of the Lunar Calendar.

Celebrated in China, Vietnam, Taiwan, and other East and Southeast Asian countries, the Moon Festival dates back to the Zhou Dynasty where people would pay homage to the moon and participate in many traditions including eating moon cakes, reuniting with family, giving thanks and making and carrying commemorative lanterns.

Council’s Moon Festival is on Saturday 30 September from 1pm to 6pm at Wyatt Park in Lidcombe. For more information or to view the full program visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/moon-festival-2023
