Cumberland Council General Manager, Malcolm Ryan, today announced a significant reform to Council’s online systems to improve transparency. A number of new online engagement tools will transform the way residents view and have their say on development applications, planning proposals and other projects within the local government area.

When the new system is established, residents will be able to view and comment on development applications on Council’s website.

“It is critical that all residents within Cumberland are able to engage with Council in a transparent manner. It is equally important that they also have access to information that is user friendly and easily accessible. Once this reform is implemented, the days of residents having to physically visit a Council office to view a development application will be over,” Mr Ryan said.

“By moving to an online system of engagement, residents will be able to view development and planning applications online, including their associated details and plans.  Residents will be able to provide their input wherever they may be through their personal devices, smart phones or computers.

“Not only will the process of engagement be simplified, but Council will be held accountable by the residents.

“This reform will also encompass the whole range of Council’s engagement activities. Similar online tools will be available for people wishing to get involved in community events and activities, for lodging feedback, requesting a service and being informed about all Council news and programs,” Mr Ryan said.

These changes will be rolled out towards the end of the year. To be kept informed about this project, and all other Council news, please sign up to Cumberland Council’s weekly e-news at www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au.
