Congratulations on 60 years of Service

I recently had the pleasure of attending a long service and retirement event in honour of President Mr Ron Hand and Vice President Mr Eric Michelmore at Merrylands RSL Club on Wednesday 22 May. Both President Hand and Vice President Michelmore together dedicated 60 years of service to Merrylands RSL Club. Thank you for your service and your valued contribution to our community.

National Volunteer Week

Thank you to Council’s team of volunteers who we celebrated during National Volunteer Week last month. It was a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge the dedication and hard work of our long-standing volunteers. Volunteering can provide you with valuable work experience and opportunities to contribute to community life, meet new people and learn new skills. Western Sydney Leadership Dialogue’s 2024 Prime Minister’s Luncheon

I was honoured to join 500-plus business leaders, government and community representatives at the Prime Minister’s luncheon on Friday 24 May at Accor Stadium in Sydney Olympic Park. Prime Minister Anthony Albanese addressed the cost of living pressures as well as his vision for a future made in Australia. In a keynote address, he outlined what his team is doing to deliver for Western Sydney including his priorities for affordable housing, roads, education, transport, health and manufacturing.

ALGWA Forum wrap up

I attended the Australian Local Government Women's Association's (ALGWA) ‘Getting Women Elected Forum’ on Saturday 1 June. The Forum was hosted by Cumberland Council and was dedicated to empowering women interested in running to be a Councillor in the September 2024 Local Government elections. The forum is part of ALGWA’s statewide initiative to boost female representation in local government. To learn more about ALGWA, visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/algwa

Playground Upgrades

Works are currently underway at Central Park in Lidcombe where the space is undergoing a full playground upgrade. As part of the project, concrete pathways and new play equipment with a softfall surface will be installed. The upgrades are due to be completed later this month

167 Fairfield Road, Guildford West - Grant of Lease

Council is seeking community feedback on the proposal to grant a lease agreement to Sundown Building Supplies Pty Ltd (ABN 36 675 238 267) in respect of the Land identified as Part Lot 1 in Deposited Plan 1179149, located at 167 Fairfield Road, Guildford West NSW 2161, for the permitted use of storing retail and landscape supplies. The proposed lease is for 5 years, with an option to renew for a further term of 5 years.

Learn to Swim


It’s never too late to learn to swim! Council’s Swim Centres run weekly swim classes for all ages.

The Granville Swim Centre, Wentworthville Memorial Swim Centre and Auburn Ruth Everuss in Lidcombe are open all year round and are heated in Winter
