Message from Mayor Lake

Mayor Lisa Lake

Christmas in the Gardens

Council hosted our annual Christmas in the Gardens event at the Auburn Botanic Gardens on Saturday 10 December, making it our last major event for the year. It was a lovely family friendly event filled with live entertainment, Christmas carols, and family friendly activities which included gingerbread and bauble decorating. Families also had an opportunity to get their photos with Santa and his elves at Santa’s Workshop. The evening was a great opportunity to spend time with the community ahead of the Christmas break.

Christmas Operating Hours

Council’s operating hours have been revised during the Christmas and New Year period. The changes will apply to Council’s Customer Service Centres, Swim Centres, Libraries and Recreational venues. There will be no changes to Council’s Waste Services with bin collection days remaining the same over this period. For more information visit www.cumberland.nsw.gov.au/christmas

Community Christmas Lunch

St Peter Chanel and St Joseph Parish of Berala will be hosting a Community Christmas Lunch on Sunday 25 December at the St Peter Chanel and St Joseph Parish Hall from 11:30am to 2pm. Community members are welcome to attend the lunch. The Parish is also looking for volunteers to help out on the day. To register or for more information call the Parish on 9644 7787 or send an email to info@stpeter-stjoseph.org.au

Westmead Children’s Hospital Toy Appeal

Each year Council coordinates a toy drive, where brand new toys are gifted to sick and unwell children at Westmead Children’s Hospital. Last week, I was joined by Council staff as we got our Santa boots on, piled over 100 toys into cars and delivered them to the hospital. Thank you to everyone that donated toys, it was lovely to see our generous and thoughtful community support one another and donate to a worthy cause.

Mayor’s Christmas Message

Christmas is the time that the birth of Jesus, more than 2,000 years ago in a town called Bethlehem, is celebrated. That birth continues to signify to millions of people around the world, a promise of harmony and peace. That is a promise that resonates for all of us. Regardless of our faith or beliefs we can all share in the spirit of Christmas, knowing that in Cumberland there is a place for everyone, where we respect our differences and care for each other. Have a relaxing and peaceful Christmas break. Stay safe over the holidays and I look forward to seeing you all in 2023.
