Message from Mayor Lake
Hindu Council of Australia
I recently attended the Hindu Council of Australia’s HOLI Mela event at Holroyd Gardens in Merrylands. Holi, also known as the “festival of colours,” is an ancient Hindu celebration held on the spring equinox, coinciding with the Phalguna Purnima (Full Moon). For many it marks the start of a new year and encourages people to come together, let go of past grievances and embrace forgiveness and harmony.
Family Fun Day
Council invites you to join us for a Free Family Fun Day on Thursday 18 April at the Auburn Centre for Community, from 10am to 2pm. There will be a range of family friendly activities including a free slime workshop, giant inflatable slide, children’s arts and craft activities and more. There will be an opportunity to meet local firefighters, police officers and community groups including members from Surf Life Saving NSW and NSW SES to learn more about their services. A BBQ lunch and refreshments will also be provided.

Seniors Festival
Council celebrated some of its oldest residents at the annual Seniors Festival with a series of events and activities last month. The festival held over two weeks, included a golf day, trips to the Premier’s Concert and bus trips to the Motor Museum and Alison Homestead in Wyong. There were also health seminars, tai chi classes, a Harmony Day cook-off and a picnic at the Auburn Botanic Gardens. For those who missed out on this year’s event, Council will also be holding two autumn bus trips in May. One will be going to the picturesque Echo Point in the Blue Mountains and another will be going to the Wyong Milk Factory. Bookings are required, terms and conditions apply.
